A British natural makeup brand who made our dreams come true!

Posted by Harriet Shackleton on

After a VERY lengthy search for a British natural makeup that ticks all our boxes, we are delighted to announce the launch of our new beauty hero brand: The English Mineral Makeup Company

English Mineral Makeup Company at Hattie & Hugh   English Mineral Makeup Company from Hattie & Hugh

Any makeup brand we put our name to here at Hattie & Hugh must be inclusive, with colours across the range of skin tones. It must of course be of high quality and be value for money. We insist our suppliers have integrity in their supplier choices and are transparent about their products' ingredients.

EMM certainly lives up to all of these things, and in addition to this, they give a percentage of their profits to Water Aid

Here, the founders, mother and daughter duo Jeanette and Grace Burrows answer a few of our questions about their products:

H&H: What makes The English Mineral Makeup Company mineral powders superior to others?

EMM: We purchase the absolute best quality minerals available. There are two major factors that determine the quality of mineral makeup:

1. The quality of raw minerals. Raw minerals are available in the different grades by the manufacturers around the world, depending on the level of purity.

2. The additives. Some mineral makeups contain additional ingredients that can be skin irritants, such as bismuth oxychloride, talc, fillers, etc and yet they are still advertised as “Mineral Makeup”!

At English Mineral Makeup, we do not compromise the integrity and quality of our product – we source the highest grade of pure & natural ingredients available in the market. Also, our products are free from additives that can cause cause skin irritation and allergies such as parabens, mineral oil, perfumes, fragrances, dyes, bismuth oxychloride, talc, etc.

H&H: Do The English Mineral Makeup Company’s products contain nanoparticles, e.g. Nano Titanium Dioxide?

EMM: We are fully aware of the health risks associated with using micronised raw ingredients, so no, we do not use them in our products. Also, all the raw ingredients that we use in our formulations have gone through the the EU Compliance process for “nanoparticles”. Our products do contain Titanium Dioxide, which is safe if not in nano form as it is not absorbed into the body.

H&H: Do The English Mineral Makeup Company test products on animals?

EMM: We never test our products on animals, all our products are cruelty free. We also purchase our raw ingredients from suppliers who confirm their products are also NOT tested on animals.

H&H: Are The English Mineral Makeup Company’s products suitable for Vegans?

EMM: Yes. All our products are Vegan including brushes. Also, our products have been licensed by the Vegan Society.

H&H: How does The English Mineral Makeup Company’s powder provide sun protection?

EMM: Our mineral makeup contains Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, both of which are natural barrier sunscreen ingredients. Both work together to block UVA and UVB rays, delivering broad-spectrum sun protection of at least SPF 15. However, mineral makeup should NEVER served as the first line of defense against sun damage. Always apply moisturiser with an SPF factor before applying your makeup.

But don't just take our word for it, this review says it all.
